Toto Wolff confirms Kimi Antonelli will drive the Mercedes W15 in Italian Grand Prix FP1, and says Monza is “a really good place” for a possible 2025 driver announcement.
Ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix, it was expected that Mercedes will announce that their main candidate for their 2025 seat – Andrea Kimi Antonelli – will make his Formula 1 debut at Italian Grand Prix Free Practice 1.
After the race, Toto confirmed Kimi will indeed get behind the wheel of the W15 at Monza.
“We’re going to do FP1 with Kimi in Monza,” the Austrian said.
“Which is going to be a really emotional moment, because we followed him since he was 11 [years old] and a baby go-kart driver.

“To see him drive out on Friday in FP1 in Monza, in front of the Tifosi, having an Italian kid in a competitive car, I think that will be something that everybody in Italy can be very proud of. And then we take it from there.”
He was then asked whether Mercedes could announce their other 2025 driver, who is widely expected to be Kimi, at Monza.
“I don’t know whether it’s days or weeks. It’s going to arrive eventually. That’s a good place… That’s a really good place. It’s a nice circuit.
“I love the people there and then we will see whether we enjoy the moment,” Wolff concluded.
