Toto Wolff gives his comments on Singapore Grand Prix free practice sessions, and says he thinks Mercedes “can be in the fight”.

Mercedes managed to top Singapore Grand Prix first free practice, but in FP2 they had to settle for P3 and P5.

After the sessions Toto Wolff warned we have not yet seen Red Bull and Ferrari’s true performance.

“I think Red Bull were in a bit of a mess,” the Austrian said.

“I don’t know what they have done set-up-wise or something else. I think we can be in the fight.

“Our long run was very competitive against [Carlos] Sainz’s long run, but we haven’t seen off [Charles] Leclerc and Max [Verstappen].”

Wolff then acknowledged the struggles of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, who both complained of heavy bouncing on the bumpy Singapore track.

“Both said the ride is really poor. The car is too stiff. At Turn 7 you can see that our ride is poor until you turn into the corners.

“We knew this track is going to suit our car more, but we didn’t know how much the bumps would affect us.”

As for his assessment of Mercedes’ overall performance, Wolff said: “Overall, we are not miles off”.
