After two hard free practice session for Mercedes, Toto Wolff says he believes winning is still possible for his team, but “that doesn’t happen by itself”
At the Australian Grand Prix free practice sessions, Mercedes again lagged behind the top competitors by a significant margin.
Toto Wolff says the team is making progress with their car, but at the moment it’s still not enough.
“We’re getting closer step by step, but the others aren’t asleep,” the Austrian told Kronen Zeitung.
“And they already understood this problem in February. I’m assuming that we’ll still be able to win this year but that doesn’t happen by itself, you have to fight for it.”

Despite Ferrari leading the championship standings right now, Wolff believes the team to beat in 2022 is Red Bull.
“Red Bull and Ferrari are ahead of us at the moment. It will be difficult to catch up, but we know where the bar is.
“If Red Bull is still losing weight, they are the benchmark,” Wolff concluded.
