Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff says Formula 1 needs to keep Lewis Hamilton “in the sport for as long as possible”.
In an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk on the Street”, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was asked to explain how significant Lewis is to Mercedes’ business.
Toto used the opportunity to highlight Lewis is not only important to Mercedes, but to Formula 1 in general.
“I think from a team perspective Lewis and Mercedes go back a long time,” Wolff said.

“He’s never raced for another brand other than Mercedes.
“We both joined the team in 2013 together, and from a professional relationship, we now have a friendship. It has been a wonderful time.
“Lewis is the most important personality in the sport. He is so multi-faceted, not only with the racing, but also off track.
“So we need to keep him in the sport for as long as possible,” the Austrian concluded.
