Toto Wolff says Mercedes will “miss” Lewis Hamilton, but “it is necessary to move on from the departure of Lewis, after which a new era will begin”.
At the end of 2024, Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes after 12 years with the team. Team boss Toto Wolff acknowledges the impact of Lewis’ departure, but he is also looking forward to new opportunities.
“Lewis is the sport’s biggest star – a star unlike any F1 has had before,” the Austrian said.
“He is a multidimensional person. Lewis is not just a racing driver, but an icon – in several different fields.
“It is quite clear to us that the Mercedes F1 team and the sport itself will receive a lot of media exposure just because of Lewis.

“We will miss him, but I believe everything happens for a reason. It is necessary to move on from the departure of Lewis, after which a new era will begin for Mercedes.
“I don’t know yet who will be the dominant competitors of the next era, nor can I say whether we will be as successful as we expect.
“If we look back over the last twelve years, we have won six individual titles with Lewis, as well as 8 constructors’ championships.
“It will surely be a memorable time for Lewis forever,” Wolff concluded.
