Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff explains Lewis Hamilton told Brad Pitt he was “much too old” to be fighting for the championship in the F1 movie.
In a talk with Joe Pompliano, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff revealed that Brad Pitt’s character in this year’s ‘F1: The Movie’, was supposed to be battling for the championship, but it was Lewis Hamilton who quashed the idea.
“The initial concept was him [Pitt] being a driver and fighting for a world championship,” the Austrian said.
“And then Lewis said, ‘that’s not gonna go, you’re much too old for a Formula 1 driver’.

“And Brad was not impressed by it, he said that he was in his prime to be a Formula 1 driver,” Toto jokingly added.
“And how they adapted the script was fantastic, because it was credible, his role was credible,” he concluded.
Ultimately, the film followed an aging driver Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt, who was recruited by a struggling Formula 1 team, in what was fashioned to be an underdog story.
