Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says Lewis Hamilton is “a fundamental part” of Mercedes’ success, and the “last line of attack”.
In an interview with Motorsport.com Toto Wolff talked about Mercedes’ 2022 driver situation and said:
“Today, there’s only two drivers I look up and that is Valtteri and Lewis.”
He went on to heavily praise Lewis, who has been powered by Mercedes throughout his whole career.
“Lewis has been with Mercedes forever,” the Austrian said.

“He’s an integral part of the team today. He contributes to the team’s performance, and he is the most visible of all the people that work in the team and plays a fundamental part in our success.
“He races the car, he is the last line of attack, with Valtteri. And that’s why he is essential for us today.”
Recently Wolff heavily implied he is looking to keep Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes beyond 2021.
“It’s the best place to be,” Mercedes’ team boss told Sky Sports F1 ahead during the Portuguese Grand Prix weekend.
“He has been with us a long time and I think as long as we can provide the outlook for a competitive package, I see no reason why we shouldn’t be together and continue the marriage.”
