Toto Wolff says Lewis Hamilton’s new Mercedes contract is still not signed, but is “emotionally” done. He adds Mercedes is “to a large degree” already working on next year’s car.

Ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff confirmed that his team is “slowly but surely transitioning into next year”.

“To a very large degree, we are already on next year’s car,” the Austrian told Sky Sports F1.

“But there is still a lot to learn. We still don’t know the ins and outs. Slowly but surely we are transitioning into next year.”

With a lot of speculation surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes contract negotiations, Wolff confirmed the deal has been “emotionally” finalised.

“The state is we haven’t signed it, but emotionally we have done it,” he concluded.

Recently, Lewis also confirmed that his new contract is “very, very close” to being done, and added that “there’s no negotiation left, it’s just all the small bits”.
