Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says Mercedes never had a number one and number two driver, and Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will have “equal opportunities and the same car”.
While talking about Mercedes’ new 2022 driver line-up Toto Wolff said the team’s drivers always had equal opportunities.
“We never had a situation where [we had a] one and two,” the Austrian said.
“They have equal opportunities and the same car.”

Wolff added the team will try to nurture a positive relationship between George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.
“This year, the interesting situation is we have in George the up-and-coming star, and undoubtedly the best Formula 1 driver ever in the other seat.
“So the dynamic is new and clearly it’s something that we will try to steer in a direction that has the most positive effect on developing the car and making us overall competitive,” concluded Mercedes’ team boss.
