Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says the team’s “full focus” is on George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, who will remain at Mercedes in 2026.
Throughout 2025, there has been a lot of speculation about Max Verstappen possibly joining Mercedes, with team boss Toto Wolff even openly expressing his interest in the Dutch driver.
Ultimately, the German team decided to keep its current driver line-up in 2026 on a 1+1 deal. Wolff now confirms that he fully ‘stands by’ his decision.
“Being open and transparent is the best path forward,” the Austrian said.

“Sometimes it bites you a bit. And when you look back, maybe certain events could have been better — coincidences that happened.
“But I’ve always done it in the most straightforward and fair way. I stand by the driver choices — by George and Kimi.
“This is the full focus, and that was always the aim, throughout the more tricky part over the summer,” Wolff concluded.
