Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says “everything was against” Mercedes at the Brazilian Grand Prix, and “that’s what Lewis has felt all his life”.

After the dramatic Brazilian Grand Prix weekend that saw Mercedes being disadvantaged with numerous questionable decisions by the FIA, Toto Wolff gave his summary of what happened.

“What a weekend from this team,” the Austrian said.

“We started the weekend on the backfoot with our self-inflicted engine penalty, we got disqualified yesterday which was harsh, and then today in the race things went against us too.

“This team has always been together, but these decisions have brought us so close. It felt like everything was against us and I think that’s what Lewis has felt all his life and we now feel it together as a team and we’re going to fight.

“That is the emotion we’re feeling in the garage at the moment.

“Yesterday Lewis produced one of the best drives we have ever seen. I don’t know how many overtakes there were across the weekend but Lewis was left, right, and over them.

“And his driving was immaculate. Max forced him off the road at Turn 4 and Lewis was very clever to avoid contact.

“It was great to see these amazing drivers but not giving a 5 second penalty? Come on!”

In a post-race media session Wolff also emphasized Hamilton’s amazing weekend.

“You need to put the whole weekend together. He was on pole on Friday then climbed back from P20 to P5 in a 24-lap race and then on Sunday, he climbed from P10 to P1.

“Overall, I think definitely I rate that among the best performances I have ever seen from him.”

Mercedes’ Brazilian GP performance keeps the team energized for the remaining three races.

“I just want to say we are exuberant about our victory and happy because we were rising against adversity but one week ago.

“We walked away from Mexico having lost and that is why it can swing from weekend to weekend.

“[This is] two great teams and great drivers that fight for the championship and whoever wins at the end deserves the victory,” concluded Wolff.
