Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says he doesn’t believe Formula E can ever surpass Formula 1 in popularity.
In 2019 Mercedes entered the all-electric Formula E with its own team. Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport Toto Wolff was asked if he thought the series could ever surpass Formula 1 in popularity..
“No, Formula 1 has 60 years of history and generates two billion viewers a year,” said Wolff.
“Formula E has a fraction of that. I don’t think it can be as big as Formula 1.
“Formula E has an exciting start and you have to give these starters a chance. That’s how it can establish itself.
“Some of the current market leaders started out as small companies ten years ago. Formula E is an alternative platform.
“It’s urban, takes place in the cities and is more fun than hardcore racing. But the technology is interesting.”
