Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff says “the work that the FIA has put into auditing us was big work and big effort, and I have no doubt that they are going to do the same with the other teams”.

After Red Bull has been found guilty of breaching the 2021 budget cap, the FIA has decided to strengthen their monitoring procedures.

Last year it took until October to have definite results of FIA’s budget cap audit, but this year the governing organization has decided to monitor adherence to the budget cap more regularly.

This is being done by sending questionnaires to certain teams throughout the season. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff believes, this will help catch those who decided to exploit any loopholes.

Asked by Autosport if he thinks some teams have been exploiting the system, Wolff said he does.

“I think so, yes,” the Austrian said.

“But the work that the FIA has put into auditing us was big work and big effort, and I have no doubt that they are going to do the same with the other teams.

“If someone has been cavalier or has cheated, then they’re going to find out,” Wolff concluded.
