While talking to Sky Sports after a meeting, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali told Toto Wolff to “make sure” that Lewis Hamilton is “running with a good F1 car”, to which Toto replied: “We owe him an eighth championship.”

After a meeting between Toto Wolff, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, the bosses of the seven UK-based Formula 1 teams, Secretary of State for the Department of Culture, Media, and Sport, Lucy Frazer, and advisors to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Wolff and Domenicali had a short talk with Sky Sports.

“Lewis Hamilton is clearly the most important personality in our sport,” Wolff said.

“He is so multi-dimensional. He is not only a racing driver and world champion, but he is trailblazing for diversity, for sustainability, and there are no limits for Lewis Hamilton as a racing driver, as an entrepreneur, and as a politician.

“I think he is one of the most spectacular personalities and characters that I have ever met.”

Then Sky Sports reporter Craig Slater asked Domenicali if he wants Toto to sign Lewis for “a good few more years”.

“I would say more short-term I would love to see Lewis still fighting on the track,” the Italian said.

“But I agree with Toto that he is an incredible personality. He has shown that he has raised the bar of interest in a lot of topics.

“For the short term, I would say – Toto make sure that he’s running, with a good F1 car,“ Domenicali concluded.

This prompted Toto to say: “We owe him an eighth championship.”

This comment is especially significant, considering the controversial way in which Lewis lost his eighth title at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
