Toto Wolff says he can understand that Max Verstappen “is fighting for his first world championship”, so he’s going to watch the race again “in all calmness and reassess”.
After a fiery and controversial race in Saudi Arabia, Toto Wolff was asked it Mercedes and Red Bull are able to keep a lid on rising tensions between them.
“I don’t think we need to keep a lid on it,” the Austrian said.
“The emotions are running very high. There is a lot of respect between the teams also for the achievements.
“And that is why as long as we have a clean race, fighting for a drivers’ world championship in Abu Dhabi, it was a great season.”

In the race Max Verstappen performed many hard and questionable manoeuvers, for which he has received two penalties and was also asked to concede his position to Lewis Hamilton.
Asked if Verstappen’s moves were over the line, Wolff said they were, but he’s going to watch the race again and “reassess”.
“It was very hard, very hard. In a way, I can understand that he is fighting for his first world championship and there was so much confusion also in the race, and so many moments I would have judged as over the line.
“But I want to look at the race on Monday again in all calmness and reassess,” Mercedes’ team boss concluded.
