After Andrea Kimi Antonelli took pole for the Miami Grand Prix Sprint Race, Toto Wolff came on the radio and declared: “Kimi, you’re not an Andrea today.”

Formula 1 rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli surprised everybody when he took pole in Miami Grand Prix Sprint Qualifying.

Afterwards, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff declared over the team radio: “Kimi, you’re not an Andrea today.”

According to Mercedes insiders, Toto is jokingly using the name Andrea, when Kimi’s performances could have been better.

However, even after qualifying in P3 for the main race, Toto had nothing but praise for his young driver.

“That’s another proof of his talent and a good indication of how the future can be,” the Austrian said.

“Bono [Kimi’s race engineer Peter Bonnington] really tried to guide him but when you’re in that car, it’s not easy. And I think it’s just part of the learning curve, it’s nothing that is disappointing or not.

“Overall, I go away with the feeling that he’s done a good job,” he concluded.
