Toto Wolff says Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer Peter Bonnington – Bono’s future with Mercedes “was never really in doubt”, and adds he is “the heart and soul of this team”.
Peter Bonnington – Bono has been Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer since 2013, but after 2024, the pair will no longer be working together.
While Lewis will move to Ferrari in 2025, Bono decided to stay at Mercedes and will serve as the team’s head of race engineering.
When asked how difficult it was to convince him to stay, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said Bono’s future with the team was never in doubt.

“Bono is, of course, the heart and soul of this team,” the Austrian said.
“He engineered for Jenson Button, then Michael Schumacher, then Lewis – a remarkable track record.
“He remains in this role but will now also be responsible for both sides of the garage. It was never really in doubt.
“But, it’s good to have the long-term commitment in black and white,” Wolff concluded.
