Toto Wolff says internal discussions with Lewis Hamilton about continuing with Mercedes beyond 2021 have already begun and he’s “happy” to make it public.

Ever since Mercedes announced that Lewis Hamilton signed a short-term deal with the team for 2021, observers and the media have been speculating about whether the Briton will retire at the end of the season.

However, during yesterday’s Portuguese Grand Prix Thursday press conference, Hamilton indicated that he planned on being on the grid in 2022.

Now Toto Wolff reveals that discussions with Lewis are already underway, and he sees no reason why the seven-time champion wouldn’t stay with Mercedes.

“So yeah, came out in public what we have already discussed in private, and I’m happy about it,” concluded Wolff.
