Lewis Hamilton’s 2021 battle into Copse with Max Verstappen ended with Verstappen crashing into the barrier. Toto Wolff was asked why Lewis seemed more circumspect while battling Lando Norris this year.
At the 2021 British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen were involved in a controversial Lap 1 collision at Copse corner, which led to Max crashing into the barrier.
This year, while battling Lando Norris, some observers noted that Lewis seemed more careful and unwilling to take too many risks.
After the race, Wolff was asked if the situation that happened in 2021, influenced the way Lewis raced Norris.

“I think when you’re racing for a victory, you can commit to a corner like Copse,” Wolff said..
“There was a lot at stake back in the day. I think if you’re racing for P2 or P3, you know that is a high-speed corner.
“I think that was the main reason,” the Austrian concluded.
