Toto Wolff says he would not have changed his decision to sign a three-year contract with Mercedes, had he known that Lewis Hamilton would be leaving.
Mercedes recently announced that Toto Wolff has signed a new three-year contract to remain the Team Principal until at least the end of 2026.
It’s well-known that Wolff and Lewis Hamilton share a special bond that goes beyond their work relationship, so after Lewis’ departure from Mercedes at the end of 2024 was announced, journalists asked the Austrian if he would have chosen not to renew his own contract had he known this in advance.
“No, it wouldn’t have changed that,” Wolff said.
“Whatever role in the team, or whatever title you may give it, I’m going to be there in the future, so it was a no-brainer to continue in an executive role.

“You can call it CEO, Managing Director, Chairman or team principal. So, the easiest way was to stick with what we have.
“It wouldn’t have affected me because I’m so proud in being part of this Mercedes Formula 1 team that carries this huge legacy of the star and racing history.
“And we’re going to write more history in the future about the Mercedes Formula One team. And that is what I aim to do with everyone in the team and with everybody in Stuttgart.
“Therefore, as much as this journey is so special, we have 10 or 20 or more years before being overrun by a bus to have more success,” he concluded.
