Toto Wolff says there will be no more engine swaps for Lewis Hamilton in 2021. Mercedes also dismisses any talk of the team using a system similar to DAS.
Lewis Hamilton has had his fifth engine swap of the season ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, and served a related five-place grid penalty.
Asked if the same engine will be used in Qatar, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff said there will be no more swaps in 2021.
“Yes, absolutely,” the Austrian said.
“We are going to the end of the season now with this engine. We still have questions over reliability, but we hope we have the right answers. We’re going to the end.”

Also, after the race video footage had emerged of Lewis Hamilton’s steering wheel seemingly moving in a way similar to Mercedes’ controversial Dual Axis Steering (DAS) system that has been banned for this year.
This of course led to many questioning if Mercedes is indeed using a variation of the system. Well, a Mercedes spokesperson quickly dismissed any such insinuations.
“It’s either an optical illusion or some play in the steering column – which can happen as they age – and is not a desirable characteristic,” the team’s spokesperson told GPblog.com.
“The steering system is homologated since start of season so has been the same all year. Any further interpretation than this is, as previously mentioned, conspiracy theories.”
