Lewis Hamilton’s assistant and physio Angela Cullen explains the bond Lewis and his race engineer Peter Bonnington, or “Bono” for short, share.
Peter Bonnington’s voice can be heard each race weekend over Lewis Hamilton’s radio. The seasoned race engineer has been at Lewis’ side for most of his 102 race victories.
Now, the woman who is also always at Lewis’ side, Angela Cullen, explains the special bond Lewis and Bono share.
“This relationship between Lewis and Bono is so special,” Angela wrote on Instagram.
“He is his No. 1 engineer, they are both genius in their own right, probably to be honest. [They] talk a completely different language to each other, but the way they work together and the power and ability to understand each other and the car is magical.
“They make each other accountable and inspire and encourage each other to ensure we can get the best out of each race weekend.
“The hours Bono spends in front of a computer with the entire engineering team is incredible, [he’s] only stopping to eat curry or sleep, which is not often enough!

“Bono is just one of the amazing individuals that make up the [Mercedes-Benz] team, it is such an honor to work alongside him and it’s so humbling to witness the man hours he puts in and the magic he produces with the car.”
Angela also reveals some fun fact about the legendary race engineer.
“Something u didn’t know about Bono – he loves motorbikes and mountain bikes and a good cuppa tea.
“And his black reusable tea mug is always sitting on his desk,” concluded Cullen.
