You can often see Lewis Hamilton’s physio and assistant Angela Cullen carrying a lot of stuff over the race weekend. She explains this part of her job.

Angela Cullen can be seen next to Lewis Hamilton at all times during race weekends, and she is often carrying loads of stuff. The New Zealander explains why she does it.

“You will see me carrying many things over the race weekend and is very much part of my amazing job,” Cullen wrote on Instagram.

“When my boss [Lewis] offers to carry [the grid bags] I won’t let him, because that would be me not doing my job! I’m very bossy like this.

“In my grid bags I carry everything that could be possibly needed for a complete reset on the grid. I have a full race kit, which we needed once when the drink bottle in the car leaked during laps to the grid and also for rainy races and red flags to refresh and keep dry.

“I have a spare helmet, balaclava, gloves and radio again for a red flag or failure or a problem with the ones he has on.

“I remember for one race with 40 secs to go before formation lap he put on his gloves and the stitching split leaving a hole on his clutch paddle fingers and we had to do a super quick change on the grid.

“I also carry a medical kit, and his phone and ear pieces so he can listen to music before the race. You may also see me carrying an air conditioning fan and umbrella to keep him cool.

“Often we will use nothing from the bags, but when we do it is always a critical change so good preparation is key to ensuring you have everything in hand,” Angela concluded.
