Toto Wolff says all of the drivers Mercedes is considering “have arguments in favour of them”, be it “the very young ones”, “the very mature ones in the best years”, “or Carlos”.
Since Lewis Hamilton’s departure from Mercedes at the end of 2024 has been announced, the German team has been on the lookout for his replacement.
Many names have been mentioned in the media as potential candidates, and team boss Toto Wolff already openly expressed interest in Max Verstappen.
However, after Carlos Sainz spectacularly won the Australian Grand Prix, when discussing Mercedes’ options, Toto made sure to mention the Spaniard by name.

“The ones that are available, or that could be interesting for us, they all have arguments in favour of them,” he said.
“Be it the very young ones, be it the very mature ones in the best years. Or Carlos.
“It’s a difficult choice because it’s not like there is a clear criteria for one and everything points to the other. I just want to do a step back and just monitor the situation.
“Some of the guys mentioned may sign for other teams and so [I’m] just looking at it,” Wolff concluded.
