After he crashed and got stranded in the middle of the track at the Australian Grand Prix, George Russell frantically called for race control to red flag the race.
While chasing Fernando Alonso for P6, George Russell crashed into the barriers on the penultimate lap of the Australian Grand Prix.
The Briton then got stranded in the middle of the track, exposed to incoming traffic. He then started frantically saying over the radio that the race needs to be red flagged.
Race control, however, only called for double yellow flags, before triggering a Virtual Safety Car.
After the race, George explained his panicked plea.
“I’m ok,” the Briton said.

“It was not a pleasant place to be, in the middle of a high-speed corner, on the racing line and with the VSC taking 10 or 15 seconds to come out.
“It doesn’t sound like a lot but you can have three cars coming around the corner in the space of 10 seconds.
“When you are doing 250 [kph] in a corner and there is a car in the middle of the road…
“I was really quite worried,” Russell concluded.
