De Vries camp reacts to ‘Red Bull robbed Hamilton’ alleged statement

After Red Bull removed Nyck de Vries from AlphaTauri, reports started circulating alleging that De Vries accused the Austrian team of ‘stealing’ Lewis Hamilton’s eighth title.

Earlier this week it was announced that Red Bull will replace Nyck De Vries at AlphaTauri after only 10 races, and bring in their reserve driver Daniel Ricciardo.

Immediately reports of an alleged statement De Vries made to the Italian press started popping up all over social media.

According to these reports the young Dutchman said he “wasn’t surprised” by Red Bull’s actions, because they had “already stolen Lewis Hamilton’s eighth title”.

We did not report this story as it appeared to be fake, and the alleged original report was nowhere to be found.

Now, ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Nyck de Vries’ manager Guillaume Le Goff confirmed these comments were never made.

“Nyck has spoken to absolutely no one since the news of Red Bull, not even to any Italian media,” he said.

“The news is fake and a defamation. Obviously someone wanted to make a name for himself – in any case, we reserve the right to take further legal action.

“There will be an official statement from Nyck later this week but, until then, we still have to sort out a few things,” Le Goff concluded.
