Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft says he has spoken to “members of the FIA” about rumoured 2022 cost cap breaches and provides a possible review results timeline.

A few days ago, Italian branch of Motorsport.com reported that three teams have been found to be in breach of the 2022 budget cap, but the publication did not name any names.

The same was reported by German publication Auto Motor und Sport, but they also did not name the teams.

Now, ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, Sky Sports F1 commentator David Croft reveals what he found out by taking to the FIA.

“The reports and the rumours that are coming out – that three teams have breached it – may turn out to be true,” Croft said.

“I’m not saying that that won’t be the end result, but my understanding, having spoken to a member of the FIA at a very senior level today, is that it’s too early to say for definite.

“And there is no timescale on this because they want to get it right.”

He then explained when he believes the results of the FIA’s cost cap inquiry could come out.

“I would be expecting a result sometime around August where the teams are informed whether they’ve made it or not.

“And then the process will go on with those teams to explain why they failed the cost cap, if indeed they have, and we should find out in September or so,” the Briton concluded.
