Fernando Alonso says he doesn’t think Mercedes’ car is as bad as the team makes it out to be in the media, and he believes “they will be a contender for wins soon”.
Mercedes started the 2023 season on the back foot, and it was only in the third race that they were able to battle for top positions.
Although he statements coming from the team have also been pretty bleak when it comes to the W14’s performance, Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso believes Mercedes has been exaggerating the problems.

“If you read their comments, it seems that they have a car that is not in Q3, but I don’t think that is that bad,” the Spaniard said.
“It’s not as good as Red Bull – no one has a car close to Red Bull – but they are getting better and they will be a contender for wins soon.
“They did last year and they won a race after a very bad start, so I think this year they are also showing the potential they have,” Alonso concluded.
