George Russell calls for Formula 1 and the FIA to be ‘transparent’, and says “it’s so important for the sport now” to show “that things aren’t just swept under the carpet”.

In reaction to the accusations made against FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, which the FIA recently cleared him of, Susie Wolff’s “criminal complaint” against the FIA, and allegations of inappropriate behaviour against Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, Lewis Hamilton called for increased transparency in Formula 1 and the FIA.

When asked for his comments, George Russell agreed with his team-mate.

“As drivers we have a role within the teams, and you trust that the leaders in this sport have the best interests at their heart rather than their own interests,” the Briton said.

“I think it goes back to the transparency side of things. If things are transparent and we see the outcome of these cases, we all have a chance to judge for ourselves with all of the facts and figures in front of us.

“But when we don’t have the facts and figures, and there is no transparency, you always think there’s something being hidden.

“That’s why I think it’s so important for the sport now, as Lewis said, to send the right message to everybody who is supporting Formula One, watching Formula One, wants to be involved in Formula One, that things aren’t just swept under the carpet,” Russell concluded.
