Lewis Hamilton‘s race-winning 2013 Mercedes W04 has been sold for $18 million, which makes it the most expensive modern F1 car.
Back in 2013, Lewis Hamilton won his first race as a Mercedes works driver – the 2013 Hungarian Grand Prix.
Now, the car he won it with – the Mercedes W04 – has been sold for $17.1 million (plus 10 per cent buyer’s premium), the most for a modern F1 car.
The auction was organized by RM Sotheby’s and took place at the Wynn Las Vegas hotel during the first-ever Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend.
The auction house explained this is now the first Mercedes F1 car that is not owned by Mercedes, team boss Toto Wolff or Lewis Hamilton himself.
The record price for any F1 car is Juan Manuel Fangio’s 1954 Mercedes, which was sold for $29.6 million.
