After much speculation Nico Hulkenberg confirmed he will be a reserve driver for both Mercedes and Aston Martin, while Mercedes announced Esteban Gutierrez as their new Brand and Business Ambassador.
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff recently said that it was only a matter of time before Nico Hulkenberg’s role with Mercedes is announced. Well, today, in an interview with Servus TV, the German announced he will be serving as a reserve driver for both Mercedes and Aston Martin in select races.
“This year I will be working as a substitute driver for Aston [Martin] and also for Mercedes in select races,” Hulkenberg said.
In other news, Mercedes announced that their former reserve driver Esteban Gutierrez will serve as Brand and Business Ambassador for the team. Here is the full press release:

“Esteban has been with Mercedes since 2018 as a simulator, reserve, and development driver. He has also been increasingly involved with the team’s commercial activities in recent years, supporting the development of brand partnerships through relationship-building and promotional events.”
