Max Verstappen’s father Jos answers questions on Adrian Newey’s potential Red Bull exit, and says Max “has a fast car, but we also have to look further to 2026”.
Ever since it was announced that Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes at the end of 2024, team boss Toto Wolff has very openly stated that his number one pick for Lewis’ replacement would be Max Verstappen.
While the Dutch driver has a long-term contract with Red Bull, it is believed that in light of the big 2026 regulation change, he is carefully considering which team will have the best chance to enter the new are on the front foot.
Since in 2026 the F1 teams will introduce brand new engines, many believe Mercedes is the team that can benefit the most from this change.
With that in mind, Max’s father Jos Verstappen was asked to comment on his son’s future.
“I think everyone wants him, only I think Max is right for the moment,” Jos told Racexpress.
“He has a fast car, but we also have to look further to 2026, so we are letting everything come to us at the moment.
“We stay very calm and see what will happen.”

In another interesting development, credible F1 media outlets like the BBC and Autosport are reporting that Red Bull’s Chief Technical Officer Adrian Newey is set to leave the team.
Newey is considered to be the main factor behind Red Bull’s current dominance, so it’s not surprising that several F1 teams are looking to attract him, with Mercedes and Ferrari being considered the front-runners.
Naturally, Jos Verstappen was asked to comment on the Newey situation.
“I’m not going to say anything about that,” the Dutchman said.
“Whatever should I say about it? I don’t know anything about it. There is a deal between him and Red Bull and the rest we’ll see. I can’t say anything about that.
“We all know how he has performed and how good he is,” Verstappen concluded.
Interestingly, it is being reported by various media outlets, that both Max and Adrian are set to hold talks with Mercedes next weekend in Miami.
