Amid a lot of speculation around Angela Cullen’s departure, Lewis Hamilton puts a stop to rumours and explains what truly happened.

On Friday, Lewis Hamilton and his long-time physiotherapist and assistant Angela Cullen surprised everyone when they announced the end of their seven-year partnership.

At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Friday press conference, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was asked if he knew “this was coming”, and he said:

“I think in every team, whether that is his close circle, or also in the wider group, you know, this is not a static situation that you can freeze, because we all develop as people.

“We develop as an organisation and if things don’t work out anymore, then we need to be honest about it and then bring change,” Wolff concluded.

This led to speculation that the split was Lewis’ decision, however, when asked about this, he put a stop to all the rumours.

“Me and Ange are good,” Hamilton was quoted by the Daily Mail.

“She’s moving on to a different phase in her life. We’re still super-close and we have been texting every day.

“She’s massively supportive and I’m massively supportive of her. I’m so grateful to have had her with me on this journey.

“She’s one of my closest friends and she continues to be,” the Briton concluded.
