After Angela Cullen’s departure was announced, Lewis Hamilton said she is “here in spirit”, and has been supporting him “all weekend through texting”.
Last Friday, Lewis Hamilton and his long-time physiotherapist and assistant Angela Cullen surprised everyone when they announced the end of their seven-year partnership.
At the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix Friday press conference, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff was asked if he knew “this was coming”, and he said:
“I think in every team, whether that is his close circle, or also in the wider group, you know, this is not a static situation that you can freeze, because we all develop as people.
“We develop as an organisation and if things don’t work out anymore, then we need to be honest about it and then bring change,” Wolff concluded.
This led to speculation that the split was Lewis’ decision, however, when asked about this, he put a stop to all the rumours.

When he was later asked to give reasons for Cullen’s exit, he didn’t want to go into details, but said she was with him at the track “in spirit”.
“No, no,” he said.
“Angela is a bundle of joy. It’s definitely different, not seeing her during the day and not having her positive energy around.
“But I still have a great team around me. She’s here in spirit. She’s been supporting me all weekend through texting.
“So, yeah,” Lewis concluded.
