Lewis Hamilton says he is happy Formula 1 has returned to Monaco, although he thinks “it’s not an actual good race racetrack”.
Formula 1 has returned to Monaco for the first time since 2019. The race unfortunately couldn’t go on in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although Lewis Hamilton already said the race is usually not exciting for the fans, as a driver he loves the Monaco circuit.
“It’s always great fun to drive on a single lap and just getting out on track is always a big shock in just how fast everything is,” the Briton said.
“[It’s] pretty unique as you go up and down through the city, so it’s an amazing rollercoaster ride.
“It’s not an actual good race racetrack, it’s all about qualifying here. Generally, where you qualify is often where you finish. But it’s still an incredible place.

“Considering we’ve missed it out for a year, I’m grateful to be back.“
Hamilton won the 2019 Monaco Grand Prix, but it was a bittersweet experience, as Mercedes’ former non-executive director Niki Lauda passed away just a few days prior to the event.
However, Lewis was happy that he could dedicate the win to his friend and mentor.
“It was really tough with the loss of Niki. That was a really distressed weekend and probably the pressure on all of us, wanting to excel for Niki.
“To put that win to his memory was really special,” concluded the seven-time champion.
