Lewis Hamilton says “there’s no way” he would be able to entered Formula 1 in today’s day and age, considering he comes from a working class background.
The story of Lewis Hamilton’s father working multiple jobs to allow his son to pursue his dream of becoming a racing driver is now world famous.
It led to Ron Dennis signing Lewis to McLaren’s young driver programme at age 13, and ultimately to his Formula 1 debut with the team in 2007.
Talking to Spain’s AS newspaper in Monaco, Hamilton said the story could never be repeated in today’s environment.

“If I go back to where I started, growing up in a normal working class family, there’s no way that I could be here. No way.
“All the guys that you’re fighting against just have that much more money. I think for the future we’ve got to work to change that.
“To make it more accessible, to people from rich and more normal backgrounds,” concluded the seven-time champion.
