All major F1 media outlets are reporting that Lewis Hamilton will make a switch to Ferrari in 2025, with the official announcement reportedly being imminent. Here’s what we know so far.

This morning rumours started swirling around that Lewis Hamilton is set to make a shock more to Ferrari for the 2025 season.

The rumour originated from Italian media, but soon every major F1 media outlet, like BBC Sport, Sky Sports, Autosport and others, started reporting on it.

While Mercedes and Ferrari have declined to make any public comments, BBC Sport reports that a deal has already been agreed and “could be announced as early as Thursday”.

Sky Sports also reports that an “official confirmation” is “expected later on Thursday”.

Additionally, Sky Sports reports that “Mercedes employees in Brackley will be made aware of the news this afternoon before an announcement”.

BBC reports “all Mercedes team members have been called to a team briefing with boss Toto Wolff and technical director James Allison at 14:00 GMT on Thursday” and adds “this is likely to be to announce Hamilton is leaving”.

BBC adds they have “verified” that the move is “a serious possibility”.

“The Hamilton deal has happened quickly,” BBC’s Andrew Benson wrote.

“Ferrari were in negotiations over a contract extension with Carlos Sainz, whose deal runs out at the end of this season.

“But Ferrari president John Elkann then discovered that Hamilton was a possibility and moved to secure his signature.

“The two are friends and have met each other socially on a number of occasions in recent years,” Benson concluded.

Last year Mercedes announced that Lewis has signed a contract extension with Mercedes until the end of 2025, but now it is being reported that it might have been a one year extension with an option for an additional year. If true, this is why Lewis would be free to move to Ferrari after 2024.
