After a disappointing Monaco Grand Prix, where he finished in P7, Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes will “work together and try and come out of it stronger”.
After suffering setbacks in qualifying, Hamilton also has a very disappointing race. Since polesitter Charles Leclerc was unable to start the race, Hamilton was promoted to P6, and stayed there, just behind Pierre Gasly, until his first pit stop.
Then Mercedes attempted to undercut Gasly, which they failed to do, but to make things even worse, Sebastian Vettel and Sergio Perez both managed to get ahead of Lewis, who was now in P7 (after Bottas retired from P2).
Afterwards the Briton was obviously disappointed with the pit stop and the overall race.
“Three places it cost us – I don’t really have a reaction to it,” Hamilton told Sky Sports F1.
“We will do all of our discussion in the background and we will work together and try and come out of it stronger.

“We underperformed all weekend as a team from the get-go so we will just put our focus onto the next race.
“Congratulations to Max and his team, they did a great job.”
Not only did Red Bull take the win, but they also took the lead in the constructors’ championship, while Verstappen overtook Lewis in the drivers’ standings.
The next race, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, is also a street circuit, so Hamilton is not sure if the team would be able to rebound there.
“I would be guessing but it is another street circuit, another one that is really cold and a very smooth circuit, which is another one that we could struggle at again, similar to here.
“We are just going to have to try to work and minimise that loss,” concluded the seven-time champion.
