Lewis Hamilton’s assistant, friend and confidant Angela Cullen explains the ‘excitement’ of ‘Quali day’ and how she approaches it.
Formula 1 is returning this weekend at Spa Francorchams and everybody is getting excited. Judging by her Instagram post, Angela Cullen seems to be most excited about Qualifying.
“I love every day of a race weekend but it’s Saturday, ‘Quali day’, that the focus really gets turned up,” Cullen wrote.
“Practice session three is always fast and furious trying to fine tune the car for that fast lap without losing performance for race day.
“Then the debrief directly after the session is intense and long, with numerous discussion on car setup between drivers and engineers that last sometimes up to the minute they get back in the car.”
Angela is always on hand to help Lewis with everything he needs during the race weekend, and she is also one of the first people you can see on TV greeting him after he puts his car on pole.
However, ahead of quali Angela says she tries to stay out of the way and “just be on hand”.
“I love the atmosphere in the engineering room, so focused and always an air of excitement with an underlying intensity to the task at hand.
“I’m usually just on hand trying not to be too nervous or overly excited at the same time.
“I just love Quali day,” concluded the New Zealander.
