Max Verstappen says he doesn’t look back at the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, because he knows he “won”, but his friends “enjoy watching that back again”.
It’s well known that the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was anything but a ‘normal’ F1 race.
The finish of that race, which saw the race director disregard the rules and allow a practically beaten Max Verstappen to win the race and the championship, will go down in history as one of the most controversial moments in the sport.
It is a moment that made many fans question if Formula 1 is even a sport anymore, and many are still questioning the legitimacy of Verstappen’s title win.
However, in an interview with Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Verstappen said he doesn’t look back at that race, because he knows he “won”.

“No, I don’t watch that back,” the Dutch driver said.
“I know I won. Usually it’s friends who enjoy watching that back again. I don’t have much to do with it now. Maybe later, when I have stopped.
“In the months after that race in Abu Dhabi, I did look back a bit, but at some point I only look forward.
“This season it might all look easy for the viewer, but then I am completely in that focus and am only concerned with the next race,” Verstappen concluded.
