Max Verstappen says his vision problems stemming from his 2021 British Grand Prix crash have been cured, but he doesn’t “want to go into details, no one needs to know”.

Back in 2021 at the British Grand Prix, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton collided while battling for the lead, and the contact sent Max crashing into the barrier.

It was later revealed that it was a 51G crash, and that Max was taken to a hospital for precautionary checkups. Ultimately it was determined that he was not harmed in the crash.

However, last week while talking to Red Bull’s the Red Bulletin, the Dutch driver revealed he has been “struggling with visibility problems” as a result of the crash, specifically mentioning that he encountered the issue at the 2021 United States Grand Prix.

This prompted some observers to conclude that he should not have even competed in the race, as his vision problems could have endangered his and other drivers’ wellbeing.

Verstappen’s quotes reported in the media made it seem like he is still battling the issues, but ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, the Dutch driver said this was not the case, and it’s possible that he was misquoted.

“It was just in ’21,” Verstappen said.

“After that it went away. It did occur, back then.”

Asked if the issue was a direct consequence of the Silverstone crash, he said:

“It didn’t happen before, let’s say it like that.

“It’s not something I would advise for people to have while driving. We are racing drivers, you deal with all sorts of stuff.

“Always here and there people have like little injuries or whatever. Those things happen.”

He also said the problem has since been solved, although he didn’t want to specify how.

“It got cured, luckily. I don’t want to go into details, no one needs to know,” Verstappen concluded.
