In 2021 McLaren and Mercedes renewed their legendary engine partnership. McLaren CEO Zak Brown is happy with their cooperation so far.
From 2021 onward McLaren is getting their engines from Mercedes, in what is a renewal of a legendary partnership that lasted from 1995 until 2014. Together McLaren and Mercedes won three drivers’ and one constructors’ championship.
During 2021 pre-season testing McLaren showed serious potential, but ultimately failed to compete with Mercedes and Red Bull at the Bahrain Grand Prix. However, CEO Zak Brown is happy with his team’s cooperation with Mercedes.
“We are still a very young partnership obviously,” Brown said.

“I’m sure that we also learned during [the Bahrain Grand Prix] weekend now several things which we will benefit from when we go into these next race weekends.
“It was the first time that we had to work together and deliver under the pressure of a race weekend. First time we went through a qualifying session, first time we went through a race under pressure.
“But everything I can see at the moment went really, really well. From Mercedes and our team, great teamwork together with both drivers.
“I’m very happy with them,” concluded McLaren’s boss.
