Mercedes has signed Ferrari’s senior team member Simone Resta to serve as the team’s Strategic Development Director, and he will work directly with Technical Director James Allison.

Mercedes has managed to secure the services of Ferrari’s senior team member Simone Resta, who will join the team as Strategic Development Director, and work closely with Technical Director James Allison.

Mercedes also signed Ferrari’s Driver Simulator Team Leader Enrico Sampo, who will join the team as Head of Performance Software Applications.

These signings come after Ferrari has been able to secure the services of several Mercedes team members, including Lewis Hamilton and performance director Loic Serra. It is believed that Mercedes’ driver development director Jerome D’Ambrosio will also join the Italian team.

Mercedes’ signing of Resta is very significant, as he has been Ferrari’s chief designer between 2014 and 2018 (where he already worked with Allison), before he was loaned out to Alfa Romeo in 2019 to serve as technical director.

He then returned to Ferrari to head the department responsible for chassis development, before again being loaned to Haas in 2021 to serve as the American team’s technical director. He then returned to Ferrari again at the start of this year.

The signing of Sampo is also very significant, since in recent times work in the simulator has proven to be a crucial factor for improving performance during race weekend.

Both Resta and Sampo are not expected to join Mercedes before 2025.

After Mercedes lost some high-profile team members to other teams, it is encouraging to see that the team has started to make some big signings of their own.
