George Russell says he doesn’t “need an apology at all” from Max Verstappen, but adds the Dutch driver “lets himself down a little bit with those sorts of comments”.

On lap 1 of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix Sprint Race, George Russell and Max Verstappen were involved in a battle for P3, which led to a collision that damaged Max’s sidepod.

After the race, Max confronted George in parc ferme, but the Briton wasn’t interested in a discussion. This caused Verstappen to call him a “d**khead”, and later “Princess George”.

Asked to comment on Verstappen’s statements, George said he was not bothered by them.

“No, there’s nothing really to say from my side of it,” the Briton said.

“At the end of the day, it’s the heat of the moment for everybody, I don’t know if he calls it differently now, but at the end of the day it’s a bit of a race incident.”

Asked if he wants Verstappen to apologize for his comments, Russell said:

“No, I don’t need an apology at all. But, he’s a two-time champion, leading the championship again at the moment.

“It doesn’t bother me, but he lets himself down a little bit with those sorts of comments. Max is a super good guy, a great great driver.

“Just words like that are a bit unnecessary,” he concluded.
