Toto Wolff says Mercedes’ performance appears to have improved on day 3 of pre-season testing, but that is yet to be confirmed during the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend.

Mercedes endured three difficult days of pre-season testing, as the team was faced with numerous problems. Not only was Mercedes forced to admit that their data showed Red Bull was faster, but the team also has to deal with several technical issues.

However, after the test Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff told Dutch reporters that the team’s performance appears to have improved on day 3 of testing. He also praised their countryman Max Verstappen.

“Your boy was much faster in that Red Bull”, joked Wolff while talking to Ziggo Sport.

“We had trouble getting out of the starting blocks and understanding this car. We are in a better place on day three, but we still have to confirm that.

“We hope to do that in qualifying in two weeks’ time.”

Wolff was also asked about the newly imposed budget cap.

“It is difficult for the big teams. We actually had huge processes in place, and that doesn’t work anymore.

“We really need to make an efficiency move,” concluded the Austrian.
