Toto Wolff’s contract with Mercedes runs out at the end of 2020, but the Austrian says “all sails are set for a successful future”.
Wolff is not only the team’s principal, but he also has a stake in the team and runs Mercedes’ overall motorsport division. It is something he definitely considers when pondering his future.
“My role is different to all the other team principals,” said Wolff.
“I am a partner in the team and the managing partner of the team, we have a joint venture with Daimler and obviously I have to pinch myself every day to have the opportunity to be in that situation. It’s very different.
“We are planning our long-term strategy together with Daimler and Jim [Ratcliffe, the boss of Mercedes’ new principal partner INEOS] and his partners coming in is yet another building block and so all sails are set for a successful future.
“But like with Lewis [Hamilton] we are in the middle of discussions and tweaking here and there and I wouldn’t really want to make comment when things are going to be signed because if I give a date you are going to ask me all the time,” concluded the Austrian.
