After the United States Grand Prix Qualifying Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff admitted the team went in the wrong direction with the car setup.
Mercedes was dominant in Friday’s United States Grand Prix first free practice, but the team’s form seems to have slipped since then.
In qualifying Lewis Hamilton was unable to beat Max Verstappen and will have to start the race from P2, while Valtteri Bottas, who qualified in P4, will have to start the race from P9 due to a five-place grid penalty.
After the session Toto Wolff wasn’t happy.
“We gave it away over the weekend,” the Austrian told ORF.

“We had a very strong car on Friday and now we are not on the right track. Then you get a result like this.”
When asked if the team had gone in the ‘wrong direction’, Wolff simply said: “Yes”.
“We have to look at it again, but in any case, the performance wasn’t there since yesterday afternoon,” he continued.
“It’s all a matter of set-up and seeing how we can get the tyres in the right window. We had them in the first sector or in the last, but never in both at the same time.”
