Toto Wolff responds to suggestions that he will try to get Max Verstappen to join Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton’s replacemement.
Recently, Red Bull’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko said he believes Toto Wolff will approach Max Verstappen to try and get him to join Mercedes as Lewis Hamilton’s replacement.
When asked about the possibility of reaching out to the Dutchman, Wolff said he will respect contracts that are already in place. Verstappen is currently contracted to Red Bull until the end of 2028.
“We will always be committed to having the best conceivable driver duo in our cars,” the Austrian told RTL.
“For that, we will not shy away from the various conversations either. We have now seen how quickly something can change.

“But having said that, we will respect existing contracts.”
However, he also said it is up to Mercedes to entice the drivers to want to join the team, by increasing their performance level.
“Drivers simply want to sit in the fastest cars. So in that respect it is up to us to show that we can build the fastest car, in the short term, but also in the long term and in view of the new regulations.
“Perhaps opportunities can come from that. The ball is in our court,” Wolff concluded.
