Despite qualifying in P2, behind Max Verstappen, for the United States Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton is happy with his overall performance.

Despite his best efforts, Lewis Hamilton was not able to beat Max Verstappen in the United States Grand Prix Qualifying.

After the session he could be heard apologizing to his team over the radio, to which his race engineer Peter Bonnington told him: “We can do something from there, definitely”.

Later in parc fermé Lewis gave former Indycar and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick his thoughts on the session.

“I gave it everything today,” the Briton said.

“It was a bit of a struggle through qualifying. I think from Q1 onwards, we kind of fell back a little bit.

“And those guys [Red Bull] were incredibly quick through qualifying, so I was happy with my last lap.

“Of course there’s always areas that we can improve, but I think that was pretty much everything we had.

“We will just work as hard as we can, tomorrow, it is good positioning for tomorrow so hopefully it will be a good race down to Turn 1.”

Patrick then asked him what his mindset was for the race on Sunday.

“To win the race and to give these guys [the fans] the best race they’ve seen,” Lewis concluded.
