Max Verstappen reacted to George Russell’s comments on their Azerbaijan Grand Prix Sprint Race lap 1 incident by saying “he explains it all nicely, like all the Brits”, and by calling him “Princess George”.

On lap 1 of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix Sprint Race, George Russell and Max Verstappen were involved in a battle for P3, which led to a collision that damaged Max’s sidepod.

After the race, Max confronted George in parc ferme, but the Briton wasn’t interested in a discussion. This caused Verstappen to call him a “d**khead”.

George later explained he believes Verstappen should have been more careful, considering how as a championship contender he had “more to lose”.

“He’s got enough experience to know that if you’re trying to overtake a guy on the outside, there’s a risk that the guy on the inside is going to run wide into you and I don’t think anything would have been any different had the positions been reversed,” Russell said.

Verstappen didn’t like George’s explanation and told Dutch De Telegraaf newspaper that the Briton “explains it all nicely, like all the Brits do”.

He then called George ‘a princess’.

“Oh, defending on the outside is not allowed because Princess George is there? That’s ultimately his problem!” Verstappen fumed.

He also said Russell’s explanation didn’t make sense, and insinuated that the Briton shouldn’t have fought so hard, as he should have known that Max would pass him again soon.

“It can go wrong very quickly. There’s no chance, I will overtake him again within three laps, so yeah, it doesn’t make much sense.

“Everyone has their own opinion and vision in the story, but I think I just gave him space, and then he just has to take that corner normally. If you sometimes make contact with the wheels, that can happen.

“It’s not ideal, but if you drive into someone else’s gap, then it is a bit more than just with the wheels together,” the Dutch driver concluded.
